At the age of 18 I had the chance to go to New Zealand for 6 weeks. I stayed at a host family in Christchurch and went to a half day language school for 4 weeks. The other 2 weeks I used properly and went Backpacking via Magic Bus. This is a Bus that picks you up from a Backpacker and drives you to next Backpacker in the next town with some visits in between. You can stay as long as you want at each destination and usually every day a bus comes by. During the 2 weeks I only had time for the South Island + Wellington, the capital. I went wale watching, took the ferry from Picton to Wellington and hiked in the Abel Tasman National Park. I really liked the more wild West Coast with lakes, mountains and glaciers. From Christchurch I took a trip to Milford Sound, one of the most scenic points in New Zealand. On the way home I had a short layover in Sydney which I used to discover the city. Someday I will come back.
