From Ushuaia I took the plane to El Calafate to join a small group tour of Camino Abierto to visit Patagonia. The big advantage (and reason) why I booked this organized tour was that I do not have to bring a tent and sleeping bag. Everything was taken care of. Perfect! To Fitz Roy I have been 2 years ago, but this time I stayed for 2 nights in a tent. I wanted to be a little closer to Mt Fitz Roy for a morning shot when the sun rises and the mountain is completely red. I had this the second morning when I got up at 4:30… Other than that I did some treks I missed two years ago. One of the highlights I had missed last time was the Trek to Laguna de Los Tres very high up the valley. Sadly the weahter was not good that day (first camping day), From Ushuaia I took the plane to El Calafate to join a small group tour of a company called Camino Abierto to visit Patagonia. One of the highlights I had missed last time was the Trek to Laguna de Los Tres very high up the valley. Sadly the weahter was not good that day (first camping day), it was snowing and Mt. Fitzroy did not show all day. As I wrote above, the second day it was great and sunny. Christmas eve I spend back in town with a very good dinner (steak of course). Sadly the 25th the weather turned really bad. A strong wind was blowing and it started to rain. I did a short 2hrs tour to 2 lookouts and found out that my softshell trousers starts to get wet inside if the wind blows the rain on it… For tomorrow the forecast sounds very bad too, so I just hope for good weather in Torres del Paine end of the week. Well at least I could take the shot I wanted to. Sunrise at Mt. Fitzroy. Merry Christmas from El Chalten!it was snowing and Mt. Fitzroy did not show all day.
